The British Elite Athletes Association (BEAA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Anita Biswas as a Non-Executive Director.
Dr Biswas is a leading sports and exercise medicine consultant with more than 30 years of experience working in elite sport. She is currently employed by the England and Wales Cricket Board and contracted to Hampshire Cricket as Chief Medical Officer, a role she combines with a consultancy position at Southampton Football Club.
Joining a nine-strong Board that includes four current and former athletes, Dr Biswas will bring valuable medical expertise as the BEAA continues to evolve its support for World Class Programme athletes.
She joins the Board with extensive knowledge of the high-performance sport system, having previously worked at the Olympic Medical Institute, the British Olympic Association Intensive Rehabilitation Unit and the UK Sports Institute, where she was Head of Sports Medicine and Co-lead for the Female Athlete and Performance Programme.
Dr Biswas’ broad experience also includes major international events, including the Commonwealth Games, the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, where she twice served as ParalympicsGB’s Chief Medical Officer. She has also been a tournament doctor in tennis for more than 25 years, most recently as Player Medical Lead at Wimbledon.
Alongside her clinical and leadership roles in cricket and football, Dr Biswas chairs the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine’s Appraisal and Revalidation Committee, ensuring that doctors working in sport maintain the highest standards of clinical practice and governance.
Commenting on Dr Biswas’ appointment, BEAA Chair Dominic Mahony said: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint someone of Anita’s calibre to the Board. She brings a unique perspective from many years working at the highest level across a range of sports, and her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to shape the BEAA’s strategic direction.”
Dr Anita Biswas added: “I’m really pleased to be joining an organisation whose focus aligns with my passion for improving athlete health and wellbeing. I’ve been fortunate to work with many athletes across the high-performance system and have seen how important it is for them to feel supported, both in the good times and during challenging moments. The BEAA does an excellent job of providing that support, and I’m looking forward to contributing to its continued growth.”
