Lauren Henry has won the British Elite Athletes Association’s (BEAA) Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for August.
The 24-year-old rower has been recognised by her World Class Programme peers after becoming the first British woman to win the single scull at the World Rowing Championships.
Having been crowned European Champion at the start of the month, Lauren came into the regatta in fine form and delivered another dominant display to make history in Amsterdam.
Taking the lead after 1200m, she finished more than two seconds clear of the field in a race which included 2025 World Champion, Fiona Murtagh, and Olympic Champion, Karolien Florijn.
The BEAA presents the Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award on behalf of its members - athletes who receive World Class Programme funding from UK Sport.
The award recognises the many ways British athletes inspire the nation, including sporting success and personal milestones such as injury comebacks, awareness raising and charitable efforts.
Lauren, who also won the award in June 2025, was up against Lottie Fry (equestrian), Charlotte Henshaw (para-canoe) and Amy Hunt (athletics) for August’s prize.
"I’m equally surprised and honoured to have won the award this month,” said Lauren.
“When I saw the shortlist of nominees and what they had achieved, I really didn’t think I’d win, so this is definitely a very nice surprise!
“I’ve had an incredible year. There’s been some very tough parts but the last few weeks have been amazing. To win the world championships in the single is definitely a dream come true!"
