Nominations are now open for the British Elite Athletes Association’s 2025 Athletes’ Athlete of the Year award.

Launched in 2023, the award is the only prize that allows the nation’s leading sportspeople to recognise their peers on the World Class Programme.

Para-rower Gregg Stevenson and para-cyclist Fran Brown won the first instalment, with Dave Ellis and Lauren Rowles crowned the winners in 2024.

The award recognises both sporting success and athletes who have inspired outside of competition through overcoming adversity, injury comebacks, or charitable efforts.

It’s now over to BEAA members to submit their nominations for this year’s prize.

How it works

Elite and former elite athletes are in control of this award, choosing the nominees and winners.

Who can nominate who?

Current elite British athletes have been invited to make their nomination via this month's BEAA newsletter. All nominated athletes must have been on the World Class Programme at some point in 2025.

What happens next?

Triple Olympic medallist and BEAA CEO Kelly Sotherton will shortlist the final nominees. All current and former elite British athletes will then be able to vote for a male and female winner, again via the BEAA member email.

The nominated shortlist will be published in mid-December, with the winners confirmed early in the New Year. The winners will receive personalised trophies on behalf of the BEAA and our members past and present.
