Five athletes have been nominated for February’s Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award following a hugely successful month for British sport.
Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale (snowboarding), Ben Levy (judo), Matt Richardson (cycling) and Matt Weston (skeleton) have all been shortlisted for the prize, which is presented by the British Elite Athletes Association (BEAA) in recognition of both sporting and personal triumphs.
The winner will be decided by BEAA members, elite athletes funded by UK Sport’s World Class Programme.
Charlotte and Huw are nominated collectively following their victory in the snowboard cross mixed team event at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. After disappointment in their respective individual events, the duo produced a brilliant performance to win Team GB’s first Winter Olympic title on snow.
Ben makes the shortlist after a breakout performance at the Paris Grand Slam, one of the most prestigious events in the judo calendar due to its rich history and the standard of competition. The 21-year-old returned home with a bronze medal, beating the reigning world champion and home favourite, Joan-Benjamin Gaba, en route to securing Great Britain’s only podium finish.
It was double gold for Matt Richardson in February as he triumphed in the sprint race and the keirin at the 2026 UEC European Track Championships. The 26-year-old, who became the first British man to win a sprint title at the event, also landed a silver medal in the team sprint.
Completing the line-up is Matt Weston, who is included following his sensational showing in Milano Cortina. The 28-year-old delivered a series of sublime performances to win gold in both the individual and team event, writing his name into the history books as the first Briton to win two Olympic titles at the same Games.
Elite athletes can vote for their Athlete of the Month by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.
Good luck to all five athletes!
