The shortlist for the British Elite Athletes Association’s (BEAA) Athletes' Athlete of the Month award for June has been confirmed, with four members in contention for the prize.
Charlie Ayre (judo), Amelia Cass (para-cycling), Oliver Conway (triathlon) and Hope Gordon (para-canoeing) have all been nominated following a successful few weeks for Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Charlie has been shortlisted after winning the first IJF World Tour medal of his career. The 20-year-old produced a series of excellent performances to reach his maiden World Tour final at the Qingdao Grand Prix, where he took silver in the -60kg category. “I feel as though I’ve been building up to this result throughout the year so far, and it’s a really satisfying feeling to be on the podium for the first time at a World Tour event," he said afterwards.
Amelia has been nominated after winning gold in the C2 time trial at the 2026 UEC Para-cycling Road European Championships in Italy to claim her first major championship victory. The 27-year-old finished just under a minute ahead of her nearest rival and continued her good form by winning silver in the road race.
A European Championship victory also earned Oliver a place on this month’s shortlist. Having won the SuperTri at Blenheim Palace the week before, Oliver arrived in Tarragona, Spain, in fine form and that continued as he dominated the run to take the gold medal by more than 30 seconds.
Completing this month’s lineup is Hope, who won KL3 gold at the PEU Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships. It was a statement victory for the 31-year-old as she finished more than a second clear of the rest of the field to claim her first European triumph in the KL3 classification. The gold completed a strong week for Hope, who also won silver in the VL3 event.
The Athletes' Athlete of the Month award is presented by the BEAA on behalf of its members - athletes funded by UK Sport's World Class Programme - and celebrates both sporting and non-sporting achievements, such as charitable efforts and awareness raising.
Athletes can cast their vote by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed later this month.
Good luck to all our nominees!
