The British Elite Athletes Association is delighted to appoint Dominic Mahony MBE as Chair.Dominic, a former modern pentathlete and double Olympian, won World and Olympic bronze in 1987 and 1988 respectively. He is a former National Modern Pentathlon Champion and British Épée Fencing Champion.Having retired from competition Dominic became the first athlete representative on the UIPM Executive Board (modern pentathlete’s international governing body) and UIPM Technical Committee, also representing modern pentathlon on the British Olympic Association athletes committee, and co-authoring the report to the UK government that influenced the introduction of lottery funding for Olympic sport.Dominic was a board member of Pentathlon GB between 1998 and 2017, before taking on the role of Vice President. He was also the GB team leader at five Olympic Games from 2000-2016 and was awarded an MBE for services to modern pentathlon in 2014.Outside of sport, Dominic co-founded the people development consultancy Lane4, now part of EY.Joining the BEAA following former Chair Victoria Aggar’s departure at the end of 2022, Dominic has been appointed on an initial four-year term.The former modern pentathlete arrives at an exciting time for the BEAA, working alongside new CEO Anna Watkins after the organisation’s re-brand as its reputation continues to grow.
Commenting on his appointment, Dominic said: “I’ve always been interested in the welfare and representation of the athlete voice, so the opportunity to come back to where I started and look at it with fresh eyes and perspective, and also appreciate the different generations of athletes who’ve come through since I was an athlete, seems really interesting.“It’s great that there is a membership association such as the BEAA who are there to help represent and give voice to athletes.“I hope we can be the world’s leading athlete representative organisation.”Anna Watkins added: “I’m delighted that Dominic has been appointed Chair of the BEAA, taking over following a transformative period under Victoria Aggar. He brings a wealth of experience both as an athlete and in sports governance, as well as his accomplishments in business.
