Six sportspeople have been nominated for the British Elite Athletes Association’s Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for March.

It proved to be a hugely successful few weeks for elite British sport, with a host of medals won across winter, summer, Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Georgia Hunter Bell (athletics) and Mark Swann (para-powerlifting) both make the shortlist following major championship victories. They’re joined by two medal-winning duos in the form of Bettine Harris and Martin Wrigley (sailing) and Neil Simpson and Rob Poth (para-alpine).

Bettine and Martin are nominated after winning gold at the 2026 470 European Championships. Having finished second in 2025, the British pair went one better this time around with a commanding performance that secured their first continental title.

Georgia joins them on the shortlist following a landmark victory of her own, winning 1500m gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships to claim the first global title of her career. The 32-year-old crossed the line in a world-leading 3:58.53 to claim the British record.

Visually impaired skier Neil and guide, Rob, took silver in the alpine combined event at the Winter Paralympics in Milano Cortina. It was Neil’s third paralympic medal, having won gold and bronze in Beijing four years earlier, cementing his status as Britain’s most successful male Winter Paralympian.

Completing this month’s line-up is Mark, who secured back-to-back continental titles by winning gold at the 2026 World Para Powerlifting European Championships. It was a dominant display from the 24-year-old, who won gold in both the Best Lift and Total in the Men’s 72kg category, setting a European record lift of 220kg in the process.

Elite athletes can cast their vote by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.

Good luck to all six nominees!
