The British Elite Athletes Association (BEAA) has announced the nominees for the Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for October.
Dan Bethell (para-badminton), Abi Martin (gymnastics), Ryan Taylor (para-triathlon) and Lauren Williams (taekwondo) have all been shortlisted following their recent achievements.
Presented by the BEAA on behalf of its members, the award celebrates both sporting achievements and personal triumphs, such as injury comebacks, charitable efforts and awareness raising.
Dan is nominated after he won a fifth men’s singles title at the European Para Badminton Championships. The defending champion and top seed overcame Oleksandr Chyrkov in the SL3 final for a second time, having beaten the Ukrainian at the 2023 European Para Championships.
Abi makes the shortlist after a brilliant showing at her first World Championships. The 17-year-old finished eighth in the all-around final, before taking the bronze medal on the floor, matching her personal best score from the Paris Olympics. Abi’s success is particularly special as it comes after a year in which she has been affected by injury and mental blocks.
After seven years out of the sport, Ryan marked his first season back in para-triathlon in style at the 2025 World Triathlon Para Championships. Having returned to para-triathlon in February following a stint in para-cycling, the 32-year-old delivered a brilliant performance to claim silver in Australia.
Completing this month’s lineup is Lauren, who won bronze at the World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China. Making her debut in the heavyweight division at this level, the 26-year-old delivered a string of impressive performances to earn her first senior World Championship medal.
It’s now over to BEAA members – athletes funded by UK Sport’s World Class Programme – to decide the winner.
Athletes can cast their vote by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be announced shortly.
