Five sporting stars have been nominated for the British Elite Athletes Association’s (BEAA) Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for December.
Zoe Atkin (skiing), Sophie Capewell (cycling) and Bruce Dee (para-swimming) have all been shortlisted, with figure skating duo Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson completing the nominations.
Presented by the BEAA on behalf of its members, the award celebrates both sporting and non-sporting achievements, with the winner decided by elite British athletes who receive funding from UK Sport’s World Class Programme.
Zoe enjoyed a fine month, winning two halfpipe World Cup medals. After taking silver at Secret Garden, the 22-year-old delivered a dominant performance to win gold at Copper Mountain.
There were multiple successes for Sophie, too, as she triumphed in two events at the Tissot Track Cycling Challenge in Switzerland. Having sat out of international racing for much of the year, the Olympic champion claimed gold in the individual sprint and keirin competitions.
Bruce earned his place on the shortlist after breaking the S6 100m breaststroke world record twice in one day at the GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships. The 19-year-old’s second time of 1:19.80 saw him become the first S6 para-athlete to break the 1:20 mark.
Lilah and Lewis complete the shortlist after winning bronze at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2025 in Nagoya, Japan. The duo’s latest podium finish means they are back-to-back Grand Prix Final medallists, having also taken bronze in 2024.
Elite athletes can vote for their Athlete of the Month by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.
