Ros Canter has been voted Athletes’ Athlete of the Month for September following her success at this year’s Burghley Horse Trials.

The Olympic champion triumphed for the second successive year on Lordships Graffalo, who became the first horse to win Badminton and Burghley twice.

Ros’ victory was all the more impressive as it came just weeks after she announced she is expecting her second child. She also became the first rider since Ginny Leng in 1989 to win Badminton and Burghley in the same year on the same horse.

Presented by the British Elite Athletes Association (BEAA), the Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award celebrates the achievements of Britain’s elite sportspeople.

It recognises competitive achievements, personal development, inspiring comebacks, charity work, and awareness-raising, and is voted for by BEAA members - athletes funded by UK Sport’s World Class Programme.

Congratulations to Ros and also to her fellow nominees Bethany Firth (para-swimming), Chantelle Reid (boxing) and Kimberley Woods (canoeing) for being shortlisted.

Athletes can get involved in choosing the winner of future awards via the BEAA’s monthly member emails.
