Four sportspeople have been nominated for the British Elite Athletes Association’s Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for September.

Ros Canter (equestrian), Bethany Firth (para-swimming), Chantelle Reid (boxing) and Kimberley Woods (canoeing) have all been shortlisted following impressive performances in recent weeks.

The award recognises both sporting achievements and personal triumphs, such as injury comebacks, charitable efforts and awareness raising, with the winner to be decided by BEAA members - elite athletes funded by UK Sport’s World Class Programme.

Ros is shortlisted after making history as the first person to win Badminton and Burghley Horse Trials in the same year on the same horse since 1989. Ros triumphed on Lordships Graffalo to win Burghley for the second successive year, just weeks after announcing she was expecting her second child.

Bethany is in contention after she marked her return from a maternity break by winning three medals at the World Para Swimming Championships. The six-time Paralympic gold medallist, who gave birth to daughter Charlotte just over a year ago, claimed gold in the S14 mixed 4x100m medley, silver in the S14 100m backstroke and bronze in the SM14 200m individual medley.

A successful return to international competition is also the reason for Chantelle’s nomination. Having taken a break from competing following the Paris Olympics, the 27-year-old returned to the ring at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, where she took bronze in the women’s 70kg event.

Completing September’s line-up is Kimberley, who won two golds in as many days at the Canoe Slalom World Cup final. The 30-year-old won the canoe event and the women’s kayak single (K1), and  then added a third medal by winning bronze in the women’s canoe team final at the Canoe Slalom and Kayak Cross World Championships.

Elite athletes can vote for their Athlete of the Month by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.
