The shortlist for the British Elite Athletes Association’s Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award for April has been confirmed, with five sportspeople in contention for the prize.
Sarah Davies (weightlifting) Ben Lane and Sean Vendy (badminton), Becky Moody (equestrian), and Emma Reid (judo) have all been nominated following a successful few weeks for elite British sport.
First on our list is Sarah, who is included after winning gold at the European Weightlifting Championships for the second consecutive year. In ninth place after the snatch, the 33-year-old propelled herself to the top of the podium with a lift of 125kg in the clean and jerk.
Ben and Sean are nominated as a duo after becoming the first English pair since 1998 to win the men's doubles at the European Championships. They beat the defending champions, France's Christo and Toma Junior Popov, 21-15 21-16 in the final to claim their first continental crown.
Becky makes the shortlist in recognition of her victory in dressage at the 2026 FEI World Cup Final. Riding home-bred Jagerbomb in the duo’s first competition outside Europe, the Paris 2024 bronze medallist recorded a personal best score to take gold on her first appearance in a World Cup Final.
Emma completes this month’s line-up after winning her first-ever medal at judo’s European Championships. The 30-year-old produced a series of dominant displays to take a hard fought and well-earned silver in the -78kg category.
Elite athletes can cast their vote by heading to their latest BEAA email, with the winner to be confirmed shortly.
Good luck to all our nominees!
