The British Elite Athletes Association welcomes the decision to publish the list of banned and expelled members of British Gymnastics.Having supported over 280 gymnasts and their families affected by abuse and mistreatment, we know how important this step is in protecting athletes, as well as protecting the standing of coaching as a profession.In 2021, the House of Lords Select Committee report on a National Plan for Sport, Health and Wellbeing recommended that work continue to develop a national register for coaches. The BEAA is pleased to see British Gymnastics now take a lead in this area.We will continue to work with British Gymnastics and bodies across the high-performance sports system to improve athlete welfare, and remind elite athletes to reach out with any concerns when they need us.
